Hi F-list and all LJ users reading this post, if I am not on LJ after this post it is because I am putting it all on the line, (pardon the pun), because a member/members of LJ-staff have committed a major breech of our trust. (I am theplotbunny on DW if you see me here no more)
I spoke to a fellow LJ user who responded to one of my entries re-having to hit a link 'twice' or clicking twice on a link on LJ or a site 'through' LJ I. E. media fire, and discovered that LJ have been skimming data off us all behind our backs for money!
The reason the links thing impacted on me personally is due to my use of a screen reader: as most of my F-list are aware, I am blind, and I rely on access and usable web resources to be on the same page, so to speak, as all other users of LJ and other internet sites enjoy.
Now, I have repeatedly asked LJ in the past to take into consideration people like myself that through no fault of our own are at a clear disadvantage with LJ's love of new fads, I don't doubt these in many cases could be adjusted to have little to no impact on a screen reader, but folks, they... just... don't ... give a shit!
They need to have factored into LJ policy, usability and access for special needs users of LJ, like Dream Width and others, a policy that includes such protocols is essential and prudent so that any changes won't interfere with adaptive software.
And you know what? They won't do it; silence is all I get, but for one staff member who has said they would champion this cause, but warned me the others may not share their desire to make a difference in this regard. I've not heard back from them since, ironic really, for that was when the LJ elections were held.
Promises...! I suppose, if I were cynical, I'd say were cheap.
Innitially, I put in a support request, and low and behold, I found I wasn't alone in my inquiry llinks issue... I am disgusted and shocked at the truth of LJ's underhanded behavior in this matter, spread this post as far and as wide as you can.
I cannot in clear consciounce sit by and not warn my friends and subsequent members of journals and communities of this unforgivable breech of trust and betrayal by LJ, that may be, if not illegal, it ought to be, and is unethical in the extreme.
My call to arms:
LJ abuses trust and engages in disgraceful behavior, speak out and make your voices heard in communities and F-lists
In relation to downloading links, many of you are likely experiencing some difficulties in this regard.
1: links need to be hit more than once, problems clicking on MF and possibly other sites?
2: They are skimming data and ripping us off, read here…
This from a fellow user of LJ
Hi,
I saw your support request when I opened mine.
I've heard the Hitting links twice before, it's because LJ is collecting data. You have to opt out of it at the LJ console. If you didn't do it yet, maybe
that will solve the problem.
It's explained why it's happening and how to solve it here:
http://antumbral.dreamwidth.org/164338.htmlso this is far reaching and the issue of integrity re-LJ and their current administration are in question, undoubtedly, they have no
respect for us users, or decency and this is a far more serious breech of trust concerning us all, and they've demonstrated utter contempt for those of
us using their services. I expect and demand those responsible resign immediately and if any legal precedent can be enacted and those guilty of this be dismissed. Those in a position
to act on our behalf in that regard do so ASAP, not all the staff will be involved I hope, so perhaps they will do something about those responsible for this infraction..
Remember the sensorship issue a couple or so years ago? LJ had fought hard to rebuild their reputation after that fiasco, but now, they've sunk to an all-time
new low.
LJ members, crucify them!
